Overview

Service Management Functions (SMFs) describe the key processes and activities required to operate IT services effectively in a distributed Windows-based environment. The SMFs encompass the entire range of IT service management activities, from routine daily operational maintenance, to capacity planning and service level management. They are a core part of Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF), which provides guidance through courses, services, guides, and other media that enable organizations to achieve mission-critical system reliability, availability, supportability, and manageability of IT solutions.

Microsoft Operations Framework assists IT operations organizations in establishing best practices for service management while deploying and operating an IT infrastructure. With its foundation in the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), MOF adapts readily to a variety of environments and integrates well with COBIT, Six Sigma, SPICE, and other international standards for security and quality assurance.
