I had the same problem with the be engine, I can confirm , fingers crossed, that underneath solved the problem. At least for the last 7 days.

TURN OFF: options preferences "display progress indicators for backup jobs"

To be on the save side I switched on the 'restart service switch in 'services' for the be engine
