1. About ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange
========================================================================
Trend Micro?ScanMail?for Microsoft?Exchange?2000 and 2003 (ScanMail)
stops the spread and acquisition of known and newly detected computer
viruses. By combining our award-winning, multi-threading scan engine
with the latest macro virus detection technology, Trend Micro MacroTrap?
Trend Micro ScanMail抯 virus detection rate is one of the most comprehensive
in the antivirus industry. ScanMail's scan engine is crucial in a Groupware
environment where hundreds of users utilize shared information.

ScanMail protects Microsoft Exchange users from computer viruses in messages
and their attachments and documents that are accessed from the Microsoft Exchange
shared Information Store databases. Virus scanning is performed in memory, which
significantly increases the scanning speed. ScanMail offers flexible, scalable
configuration and remote management through the Windows-based
ScanMail Management Console, as well as the Web consoles.

   1.1 Overview of This Release
   =====================================================================
   This patch release consolidates all the hotfixes released for ScanMail
   for Microsoft Exchange after the GM build.

   1.2 Who Should Install This Release
   =====================================================================
   You should install this patch release if you are currently running
   ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 6.2 (build 1098).

2. What's New
========================================================================

   2.1 Resolved Known Issues (from Previous Versions)
   =====================================================================
   1) ScanMail real-time scan module, SmexVs.exe, stops intermittently.
It generates a Dr. Watson error when verifying if a system message is
from the Exchange server.

   2) Control Manager server is unable to deploy the virus pattern or
scan engine to the ScanMail for Exchange server. The error "Command has
been aborted" is encountered. This happens when ScanMail is
configured to use a proxy server for updates from the Internet

   3) The ScanMail Management Console Program - SMMC.exe - crashes when
the View Log -> Update Log is accessed. This occurs when the Update Log
file - TmUpdate.log - exceeds 1000 lines.

   4) Using the "specify scan action" option, when a detected virus does
not fall on any of the major virus types, ScanMail takes the action of
pass.

   5) SMEX doesn't load a new pattern file. This occurs even when SmxS3Dll.dll
is unloaded and users manually launch a new pattern file.

   6) Quarantine Manager fails to resend mails for the following
reasons -
      a. System Mailbox does not exist (error is seen in SmexQMCmd.dbg)
      b. Sender account is not a local account  

   7) The ActiveUpdate process creates the AU_Cache folder under ScanMail's
home directory. It continuously grows in size and consumes a lot of disk space.

   8) Internal sender never receives the mail notification for content
scanning. The account for sending mail notification (SmexAdmin) receives
an NDR which indicates the mail notification cannot be delivered to the
internal sender.

   9) IIS service may crash when:
      i. handling an exception which occurs in the CDO (Collaboration
         Data Objects) module
      ii. initializing a critical section in the RTF (Rich Text Format)
         module

   10) A sender name containing the "*" character causes scanning to stop
responding and slows access to mail.

   11) ScanMail_RealTimeScan (RTS) service fails to start. It is seeing
another RTS instance as loaded, but Task Manager doesn't show any SmexVs.exe
running. SmexVs.exe is the process for the ScanMail_RealTimeScan service

   12) When the contents of the Performance hive are corrupted, SmxPerf.dll
encounters a handle leak. Perfomance hive: "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\ScanMail_Monitor\Performance". A handle leak may occur when a
process tries to access a registry handle which was not properly terminated.
SmxPerf.dll is the DLL used for performance monitor counters.

   13) Column entries in CSV exported logs become misaligned when some message
properties (i.e subject) contain a comma.

4. System Requirements

   No changes from system requirements in product readme.

5. Installation
========================================================================

   IMPORTANT NOTE:
  
   1) This patch can only be used for STAND-ALONE SERVERS. Another patch
      has to be used for Cluster servers.
     
   2) The patch will automatically restart the following services -

ScanMail_MailAction
ScanMail_Web
ScanMail_RealTimeScan
ScanMail_Monitor
IMAP4 Service
Information Store Service
MTA Stacks Service
POP3 Service
Routing Engine Service
NNTP Service
SMTP Service
World Wide Web Publishing Service
HTTP SSL
IIS Admin Service

   5.1 Installation using the Deploy Tool
   =====================================================================
   1) Run Setup.exe. The License Agreement appears; you should agree to the
license conditions to proceed with Setup. Click Next to proceed.
     
   2) Select the server name(s) where you want to deploy the hotfix or the
service pack. Use the Add, Remove and Remove All buttons to add and remove
servers from the target list. When you are satisfied with the list of target
servers, click Next to save your modifications and proceed. The server logon
screen appears.
 
   3) When asked for a username and password, specify a Domain Administrator
account with "Logon as a Service" privilege on the target server. Click Logon
to proceed.

  Note: To verify the privilege, go the the Security Policy Console -> Security
Settings -> Local Policies -> User Rights Assignment -> "Logon as a service"
policy.
   
   4) After a successful logon, the deploy tool will copy the hotfix to the
target server and will execute the file.

   5) An installation status of "Done!" displays when the remote deployment
is complete.

   5.2 Rollback Procedure
   =====================================================================
   To roll back to the previous build using the backed-up files:

   1) Stop IIS Admin service and all Exchange related services
  
   2) Stop the ScanMail for Exchange services.
      a.   Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Services to
           open the Services screen.
      b.  Right-click <ScanMail_service>, and then click Stop.
  
   3) Rename the files for the current build:
         a.  Using Windows Explorer, locate the ScanMail home directory:
             <root>:\Program Files\Trend\SMEX.
         b. Rename SmexQMCmd.exe, SmexUpdt.exe, SmexMa.exe, SmexDelMail.dll,
         SmexVs.exe, Smex8ENU.dll, SmxS3dll.dll, SmxPerf.dll, Smex3ENU.dll,
         SMMC.exe

   4) Copy the files from the previous build to the folder for the current build:
         a. Copy SmexQMCmd.exe, SmexUpdt.exe, SmexMa.exe, SmexDelMail.dll,
            SmexVs.exe, Smex8ENU.dll, SmxS3dll.dll, SmxPerf.dll, Smex3ENU.dll,
            SMMC.exe from <root>:\Program Files\Trend\SMEX\Patch 1
            to <root>:\Program Files\Trend\SMEX.

   5) Start IIS Admin service and all Exchange related services
  
   6) Start the ScanMail for Exchange services:
         a. Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Services to
            open the Services screen.
         b. Right-click <ScanMail_service>, and then click Restart.


6. Post-Installation Configuration
========================================================================
   No post-installation steps are required.

  Register online with Trend Micro within 30 days of installation to continue
  downloading new pattern files and product updates from the Trend Micro Web
  site. Register during   installation, or online at:
  https://olr.trendmicro.com/registration/

  Trend Micro recommends that you update your scan engine and 
  virus pattern files immediately after installing the product.
